Hockey

Growing up as the typical Canadian, I was introduced to the sport of hockey at a very young age. With three brothers, playing hockey in the basement of our home became more then just a hobby but a routine. My parents had me on the ice at the age of three and have stuck to it since.

In my house we are pretty hardcore followers of the Ottawa Senators. Since I am from the city of Ottawa, we proudly support our local team. We are also big fans of the Senators because our favorite player, Mike Fisher, plays for them. Mike is an amazing hockey player and is a follower of Christ. He has helped inspire me as a person both on and off the ice.

Other great hockey players that includes Wayne Gretzky, Borry Orr and Laurie Boschman. These hockey players are some of the most talented players ever to play the game. These have been guys who I look up to for different reasons.

"I skate to where the puck is going to be, not to where it has been." - Wayne Gretzky

Wayne Gretzky is the all time greatest hockey player. Wayne was able to record the most points in the history of hockey and the only player to have his jersey number retired by the entire league. Bobby Orr is my favorite defenseman ever to play the game. He changed how defenseman play the game of hockey and created a new aspect of the game. I look up to Laurie Boschman for his faith and is community service. Laurie was a great hockey player and is still living for the Lord today.

For me,  there almost no greater feeling in the world then stepping on a fresh sheet of ice. At my home in Ottawa, we have a pond that freezes over in the winter. Despite the incredible amount of work that it takes to make sure that the ice is good to skate on, it is always worth it.

Freezing cold nights with a bunch of buddies over to play some hockey is what I miss most about being in Lynchburg. The thing I am very happy about though, is that I am able to play hockey here at Liberty at the rink almost whenever I want too and because of the large populations who share the same passion as I do at home, we do not always have that same privilege.
